The Preservation Unit of the University Libraries functions as an integral part of Collection Development and works closely with other departments to maintain the collections in usable condition for the long term.
The Libraries' Preservation Program involves both preventive and corrective measures, including:
- Disaster preparedness
- Environmental monitoring
- Staff training in handling materials
- Book repair
- Rebinding
- Protective enclosures
- Document repair and encapsulation
- Reformatting
Preservation staff are also available, both to the campus community, and to residents
of the Binghamton area, for consultation and referrals. If you have non-book items
such as furniture, paintings or textiles needing work, also consider using the AIC Find a Conservator search tool for conservators local to you.
