"FROM THE CHAIR OF THE BOARD"
Greetings to our Link Foundation Friends and Family:
This year marks the 100th Anniversary of Ed Link’s birth, as well as the 75th Anniversary of the registration of Ed Link’s patent for the original Link Flight Trainer. Ed Link and his colleagues not only launched the simulation industry, but also greatly and positively impacted our national defense, the exploration of space and the oceans, and the development of alternative forms of energy.
Ed was a brilliant pioneer and inventor. The Link Foundation, which he and his wife Marion established 51 years ago with part of their resources, has worked hard to honor this legacy by supporting research and doctoral level education in simulation, ocean engineering and energy.
While the Link Foundation has given over $9 Million to further these purposes, and is supported by an $11 million endowment, the economy of 2000 to 2004 has had an impact on the level of assets of the Foundation, as it has for many charitable foundations. So, the Trustees and Special Advisors of the Foundation have embarked upon this appeal to raise funds to enlarge the endowment in an effort to support its initiatives at an even higher level. We have made note of the contributions already received on the next page of this newsletter, and we will update this information periodically.
