About

What is Fraternity and Sorority Life all about?

There are five "core values" that lie at the heart of Fraternity and Sorority Life at Binghamton University:

1. Unity

We pride ourselves on the strong relationships that exist within our fraternity/sorority community. These relationships provide opportunities for open and honest dialogue while still maintaining an environment of respect. As a larger community with many diverse activities hosted by various fraternity/sorority chapters, the opportunity to collaborate with and participate in these events supports the global education we receive at Binghamton University.

2. Respect

We strive each day to create a fraternity/sorority community where each member is welcoming and approachable. The promotion of self-respect is extremely important in our development of healthy and productive members, and as members we make every effort to present an image representative of the high ideals our organizations were founded upon. We employ an open-minded, cooperative approach to problem solving and continuously embrace the diversity of our community.

3. Scholarship

As responsible fraternities and sororities at Binghamton University, we understand that learning is the primary focus of the college experience. Our chapters pride themselves on high academic achievement and hold their members to a standard of excellence. Our collective GPA as a community continues to remain above a 3.0, and all interested students must have a 2.5 GPA or higher to join a sorority or fraternity. Chapters use both formal and informal strategies to encourage the academic success of their members.

4. Service

A common goal of all Binghamton University fraternities and sororities is to better their communities through service. Greek chapters at Binghamton serve the local community and beyond through countless initiatives. Chapters annually raise tens of thousands of dollars for various causes and perform over 10,000 hours of community service in an effort to show the community that we are values-driven organizations.

5. Leadership

Leadership embodies the values of Greek Life and is one of the greatest benefits of joining a fraternity or sorority at Binghamton University. Members have the opportunity to hold positions in their chapter, governing council, or national board, and through these positions they are able to implement change on campus and in the surrounding community. Members receive intense training and gain valuable skills through these experiences that they utilize for the rest of their lives.
