Background
Nicholas Schwier, PharmD, BCPS AQ-Cardiology, is a clinical associate professor with the Department of Pharmacy Practice and assistant dean for experiential education within the Office of Experiential Education at Binghamton University's School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He completed his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at St. John Fisher University’s Wegmans School of Pharmacy as a member of its third graduating class. After pharmacy school, Schwier completed both his PGY-1 pharmacy practice and PGY-2 cardiology pharmacy residencies at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center/School of Pharmacy.
Schwier comes to Binghamton University with an array of experience in interprofessional education, teaching trainees and students in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and laboratory sciences. He served as program director of the PGY-2 cardiology residency. Nationally, Schwier has been appointed to a variety of committees and has served as vice chair, then chair of the Student-Resident Committee of the PRN. He is also involved in national research and scholarship endeavors related to pericardial syndromes.
At Binghamton, he engages in fostering students’ practice readiness for the experiential environment and focuses on helping to bridge didactic knowledge and skills with the experiential environment. One of Schwier’s other areas of interest is mentoring faculty and students. He enjoys the challenge of motivating others and bringing out their passions and talents.
