Background

Sarah Spinler, PharmD, FAHA, FCCP, FSHP, AACC, is tenured professor and co-chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. She is also professor emeritus of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy (PCP) at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, and adjunct professor in the Cardiovascular Division of the Department of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Spinler received her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. She completed a pharmacy residency and research fellowship in cardiovascular critical care pharmacy at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She was awarded fellowship in the American Heart Association (AHA), American College of Cardiology (ACCP), American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and is an associate of the American College of Cardiology (ACC).

Prior to arriving at Binghamton, Spinler served as a research fellowship, PGY-1 pharmacy and PGY2 cardiology residency program director for 15 trainees and oversaw the pharmaceutical industry fellowship program at PCP for eight years. At PCP she developed and directed a pharmacy resident teaching certificate program that enrolled as many as 28 residents annually.

Currently, she serves on the AHA Clinical Cardiology Council Clinical Pharmacology Committee, ACC Cardiovascular Team Leadership Group and Communications Work Group, New York State ACCP Research Award Selection Committee, ASHP Drug Research Award Selection Committee, ASHP Nurse Pharmacist Collaborative Care Grant Selection Committee, and ASHP Sustained Contribution to the Literature Award Selection Committee. She is on the editorial board of Pharmacotherapy, Drugs, Annals of Pharmacotherapy/Cardiology and American Journal of Managed Care, as well as Pharmacy Times franchise. 

Spinler serves as a manuscript reviewer for numerous biomedical journals including Annals of Internal Medicine, JAMA Cardiology, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Journal of the American Heart Association, BMJ, Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis and Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis. She also volunteers nationally on the Mended Hearts charity Medical Advisory Council and locally with the American Kennel Club Susque-Nango Kennel Club.
