The Women and Gender in Academia Committee is a group of individuals who wish to enter or currently work in academia. We hope to empower all women and gender minority individuals who seek success in such settings. We have three primary goals. First, we aim to facilitate open dialogue among people in all stages in their career to encourage development of a strong social network and support system. Second, we aim to provide a safe space to ask questions and increase knowledge regarding the positive and negative realities of being a woman or a gender minority in academia. Third, we aim to teach skills to increase one’s professional development and probability of success across various academic settings. Although these three goals target women in academia, we hope to also support and serve individuals of all gender identities that can A) help empower women and gender minorities and or B) benefit from our empowerment.
