Moving in!

Welcome to Residential Life at Binghamton!

You must schedule a move-in day/time here

  • New first-year and transfer student move-in: Friday, Aug. 16 through Saturday, Aug. 17 at your scheduled time
  • Returning student move-in: Saturday, Aug. 17 through Sunday, Aug. 18 at your scheduled time

You must arrive at your scheduled move-in day/time. Contact Residential Life with any issues.

What to bring, what to share and what not to bring

It's easy to overestimate what you need to bring. Keep in mind there are items that are not allowed in the residence halls and other items that you may want to share with your roommates. Here's a list of what’s included in your room, what to bring, what not to bring and what’s prohibited.

Color-coded building pass

We will be mailing you a color-coded dashboard card in early August that will have your building name on it. BRING THIS WITH YOU WHEN YOU MOVE IN and place it on your vehicle dashboard with the building name visible. This will allow us to quickly direct you to the correct area for unloading.

If you do not have your color-coded dashboard card, please print out a blank dashboard card, fill it out, and follow the same instructions.

Move-in process

The entire move-in process can take 1–2 hours. In order to provide our students and families the best service possible, students will select a move-in day and time between 9am and 3pm and must arrive during their designated time block.

Arrival

Have your Binghamton University ID card or QR code for housing available.

If you don't have an ID card, login to this webpage for a housing QR code you can use. Display this on your phone when you check in.

Arriving Late?

If you need to arrive after Aug. 18 for any reason, please contact your community area office and make an appointment with them to arrive during business hours (Monday – Friday 9 a.m.–4 p.m.). If you require an exception to that time frame, that will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the community area office.

Unloading your belongings

Once you have completed check-in, you will be instructed to unload belongings at a designated drop-off area and then move your car to a designated parking area. There will be big, green laundry carts available to load your belongings into. Ideally, the student will be checking in while someone is moving the car and a third person is staying with the belongings. We will have staff and volunteers on hand to help.

B-Welcome Crew

Look for our B-Welcome Crew in the bright green T-shirts who volunteer to assist students and families during move-in. The crew will help load your belongings into green laundry carts to transport to your room.

Parking and transportation

After you unload, vehicles must be moved. Family vehicles may temporarily park in Lots M1, M2, M3, M4 or M5 (Lot E while space is available). Due to lot closures for move-in, resident students must park in lots F1, F2, G1, Y5 or ZZ south overnight. All 24-hour lots will reopen at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18. Residents must move their vehicles between 6 p.m. and midnight on Aug. 18 to a 24-hour lot.

OCCT blue buses will be transporting students/families between the parking lots and the residence halls. BC Transit will offer service throughout the community. BC Transit will temporarily only be picking up and dropping off in parking lot C, in front of the Anderson Center, Friday, Aug. 16 through Sunday, Aug. 18.

If you have a disability and need assistance traveling across campus, look for one of the four information stations identified on the campus map provided at check-in. An information station will be located adjacent to temporary family parking in Lots M1 and M2. Any Binghamton University staff member can also assist you and direct you to the right resource.

Don't forget to fill out a Room Condition Report!

Once you're in your room, you will need to submit an online Room Condition Report (RCR) as soon as possible. This documents the condition of the room and furniture at the time of move-in and is used to determine damage billing when a student moves out. It must be filled out correctly to ensure you will not be held responsible for a pre-existing condition in the room. Check with staff if you have problems submitting this report or need a computer.
