Background

Cristina Nava-Wilson was born in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico. Currently, she serves as a lecturer in the Spanish Department at Binghamton University.

During her time at Binghamton, Nava-Wilson developed the curriculum for SPAN 212, SPAN 213 and SPAN 249, tailored specifically for Spanish heritage speakers, individuals who acquired Spanish as their first language at home during early childhood. Additionally, she designed the course Hispanic Food and Culture (SPAN 380B), focusing on exploring culinary traditions and cultural aspects of the Spanish-speaking world. This course offers students an immersive experience of the diverse gastronomy and rich heritage of Spanish-speaking countries.

As an instructor, Nava-Wilson teaches classes at the intermediate and advanced levels, using her expertise to guide students in honing their language skills and deepening their cultural understanding. Her international teaching experience includes teaching Spanish abroad in Spain, further enriching her pedagogical approach. In addition to her University role, she has also taught Spanish to students ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade.

Nava-Wilson’s educational background includes a BA and MA from Binghamton University, complemented by 3.5 years of coursework in communication sciences at Universidad del Sol in Mexico.
