Background

Maria Cook earned a degree in medicine at the University of Bologna, Italy. Currently, she teaches courses such as Italian 111, 115 and others. She also teaches courses such as Food and Culture of Italy, an imaginary tour where students learn about Italian culture and food. This year, she will teach a new course, 181: Visiting Italy, in which students will learn about attractions and ways to make the travel experience more interesting.

Since she emigrated to the U.S. from Italy in the early 1990s, Cook has been involved in Italian languages and cultures. She taught at the local Saint James Middle School for many years and, more recently, at the American Civic Association, where she taught an Italian course for travelers.
