Graduate Programs

Master of Arts in Spanish, French or Italian

The Romance Languages and Literatures Department provides instruction in the French, Italian, and Spanish languages, literatures, and cultures with the programs leading to Master of Arts degrees. A candidate for the MA is expected to acquire oral and written proficiency in one romance language, sound knowledge of the principal aspects of the literature and culture in that language, and familiarity with various methods of scholarship and criticism.


4+1 Degree Programs

Variations of our unique BA/MA program allow students to receive an accelerated Bachelor's and Master's degree in only 5 years, with some students opting for a BA/MBA (Masters in Business Administration), BA/MAT (Combined BA/MAT), or BA/MPA (Masters in Public Administration) that set forward-thinking undergraduates on a path to graduate success. 


Dual-Degree Programs

Students enrolled in the MA-MSW dual-degree program will acquire linguistic and cultural competency as well as professional social work skills to successfully work with Spanish-speaking, Hispanic and Latino/a communities in the United States.

Students enrolled in the MA-PhD dual-degree program will acquire a strong concentration in language, a national literature, literary theory and criticism.


Adolescence Education

These programs prepare students with bachelor's degrees who seek certification to teach students in grades 7-12 in New York State schools for initial teaching certification.


MA + Graduate Certificates

Students pursuing this combination will simultaneously complete a language MA, offered by the department of Romance Languages and Literatures, and a graduate certificate in a related professional field, without adding extra courses or extra terms.
