Research

S3IP takes a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to R&D. Our affiliated faculty members and PhD-level staff members bring decades of expertise in engineering, materials science, computer science, chemistry and physics to address the challenges presented by industry partners. Their specialties include thermomechanical analyses, fluid dynamics for cooling, properties and mechanics of electronics manufacturing materials, and computing workload management and prediction, to name a few.

In our first decade as a New York State Center of Excellence, S3IP helped make cloud computing more energy-efficient and enabled manufacturers to produce more robust smart phones. Our experts collaborated on the creation of a flexible, printed heart catheter and building electronics on glass that can bend.
