The External Scholarships and Undergraduate Research Center (ESURC) serves as a resource for Binghamton students seeking or already participating in undergraduate research opportunities. From finding research opportunities, to receiving funding to conduct your own summer research projects, to applying for reimbursements for research projects or conference presentations, to learning where to publish your papers, to learning more about other research programs on campus, the tabs housed here provide details on what steps to take to participate in these opportunities.
The CROP Database (Campus Research Opportunity Postings) informs undergraduate students about current research opportunities on campus. CROP offers faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students a centralized location to post calls for applications for their current research, scholarly, or creative activity opportunities for undergraduate students. ESURC offers funding and award opportunities. We offer the Undergraduate Conference Presentation Fund (UCPF) to help students subsidize some of the costs associated with research conferences. Students can apply for the Undergraduate Research Award (URA), designed to support credit-bearing independent research or creative projects. The Summer Scholars and Artists Program (SSAP) offers award stipends for student-designed projects for every area of study (research, scholarship, or creative activities). Students who have excelled in research may be nominated for the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research. The Beckman Scholars Program is a fully-funded research opportunity for undergraduate students in their first or second year who are majoring in biochemistry, biological sciences, biomedical engineering, chemistry, or integrative neuroscience. The program provides an $18,200 stipend for a 15-month research commitment to gain hands-on research experience under the mentorship of a faculty member. Learn more about other campus research programs, such as the Summer Research Immersion Program (SRI), designed for students intending to major in STEM, which provides a one-of-a-kind research experience. The McNair Scholars Program is designed to increase the numbers of first-generation, low-income and/or underrepresented minorities attending graduate school and earning their doctorate through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. Publishing your research or creative work is a critical phase of the research process. There are a variety of platforms for undergraduate students to share their research, scholarly, or creative work, both within and outside of the Binghamton University community. The ESURC office manages the Binghamton University Undergraduate Journal, which showcases the broad spectrum and outstanding quality of undergraduate work through a blind review process. Other campus journal publications include the Binghamton Journal of History, Binghamton Writes, Brainwaives, and more. Find listings of regional and national journals that publish undergraduate work.
