Welcome Week in Theatre:

MONDAY, AUG 19

11 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Scene and Costume Shop Open House (B36 and B40 on the basement level of the Anderson Center) - Meet the faculty and staff of Theatre Design, Technology, and Stage Management at Binghamton University! Learn about classes and opportunities in scenery, lighting, costumes, sound, props, and more. For students who are interested in any of these areas and want to learn from working professionals in the field!

11:30 – 12:45 p.m. Musical Theatre Workshop in Studio B (Fine Arts 196) - Let’s get musical with the songs of Broadway with Professor Tommy Iafrate, director of Musical Theater. Questions about singing lessons, musical theatre courses, and auditions can be answered here too!

12:45–2:00p.m. Acting Workshop For All & Info Session for THEA 208 Acting I Advanced Beginning Class in Watters Theatre - Come play theatre games, do improvisations, have fun, and meet other theatre-loving students with Acting/Directing faculty from the Theatre Dept. Information on acting classes and audition opportunities (THEA 208 and productions) will be discussed here as well! This fun and interactive workshop will also prepare students for auditions for THEA 208, an Acting I class for students with previous experience in acting or students who want to get actor training at a deeper level. Auditions for THEA208 will happen on Monday, Aug. 21 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Please contact Professor Anne Brady, instructor of THEA 208 at abrady@binghamton.edu for more information.

2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Musical Theatre BFA Information Session in Studio B (Fine Arts 196) - Binghamton now offers a BFA in Musical Theatre. If you are interested in being part of this exciting new degree, plan to attend this session to learn essential information about the program and sign up for the required first-year courses.

3:15 – 5:30 pm Dance Workshops - (Fine Arts 104 and 93A) – Dance instructors JoEllen Kuhlman, Neva Kenny and Heidy Batista Garcia welcome students to join in learning dance combinations and about dance classes offered this fall. Returning dance students are also encouraged to come get warmed up - and to help welcome new students!

6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Audition/Interviews for THEA 208 Acting One-Advanced in Studio A (Fine Arts 192) - THEA 208 is an Acting I class for students with previous experience in acting or students who want to get actor training at a deeper level. To audition, you need to prepare a memorized one-minute monologue or poem from any source (play, novel, spoken word, etc.). The important thing is that you really love the piece that you will be sharing. If you are interested in auditioning for THEA208 or have any questions about the class, please email Professor Anne Brady (abrady@binghamton.edu) to obtain a timeslot for your audition.

6:30 p.m. Theatre Open House/Meet & Greet in Studios A & B (Fine Arts 192 & 196) - Enjoy some food and meet faculty, staff, and new and returning theatre students! Whether you love the spotlight, backstage, working in the shop, or running boards, we have classes and production opportunities for you!


THURSDAY, AUG. 22

6:30–9:30 p.m. Voice Lesson Auditions in Studio B (Fine Arts 196) - Are you interested in taking singing lessons? If so, then these auditions are for you. Students will be asked to sing 16-32 bars a cappella for the Theatre Department's singing teachers, Professors Peter Sicilian and Carolyn Amory. Email Professor Tommy Lafrate, with your availability to schedule an audition slot.


FRIDAY, AUG. 23

4:00–6:00 p.m. Audition Coaching in Studio A (Fine Arts 192) and Studio B (FA 196) - Need a little audition coaching for the upcoming auditions? Get constructive feedback from an Acting/Directing faculty member. Bring your audition materials, ideas, and questions!

Open Audition Call for Actors, Dancers and Singers in Chamber Hall - Calling all Bearcats who act, dance or sing! Our fall productions are Sweat by Lynn Nottage, a play directed by Brandon Wright in the Chamber Hall and Anything Goes, a musical directed by Tommy Iafrate and music directed by Melissa Yanchak in Watters’ Theatre.
