Graduate Record Examinations

Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

In accordance with the New York State Education Transformation Act of 2015, applicants to graduate-level teacher preparation programs must meet rigorous admissions selection criteria. In addition, the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) requires educator preparation programs to set high academic standards for candidates. To meet these standards, all applicants to any graduate program leading to New York State certification in classroom teaching must submit their Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores with their application materials. This includes all Teacher Education (Master's of Art in Teaching and Master's of Science in Education) programs.

The faculty members in the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Educational Leadership review each applicant's materials individually. All materials submitted with the application, including test scores, transcripts, and letters of recommendation, are interpreted as a piece of a more dynamic, intricate whole and individual items will not outweigh other indicators of a student's potential success as a teacher or school leader.

Review the GRE website for information about taking the GRE and/or retrieving scores. Use the institutional code 2535 when registering for the GRE. This allows scores to be sent directly to Binghamton University.

Note that the GRE is not required for the CAS in Educational Leadership program.
