The mission of the Liberty Partnerships Program is to motivate and support middle and high school students so they will finish school and be prepared for postsecondary education or to enter the work force.
The program's goals are to provide support to at-risk students to reduce the drop-out rate and enable them to graduate from high school and be prepared to continue their education or enter the workforce.
With that in mind, the five principles that guide the partnership as it concentrates on the critical transition periods from elementary to middle school, middle to high school and high school to college or meaningful employment are to:- build a good support system
- set a vision
- develop positive attitudes
- learn how to make positive changes
- foster positive risk-takers
The program concentrates on the critical transition periods from elementary to middle school, middle to high school and high school to college or meaningful employment. The program strongly encourages students to pursue postsecondary education and to apply for New York state scholarships.
Our focus
The Liberty Partnerships Program is founded on the belief that students will achieve academic success and lead productive lives as adults if they are provided with support, encouragement, information and effective interventions. In addition to the one-to-one mentorship support of a dedicated Liberty cCounselor, our program provides service delivery in the following areas: academic support, leadership and civic engagement, workforce development, college preparedness and service learning.
Our approach
Through our institutions of higher education, the Liberty Partnerships Program offers strong school and community partnerships that deliver research-based programming to students enrolled in public and non-public schools that are identified as having a high risk of students dropping out of school. The Binghamton University Liberty Partnerships program currently serves more than 335 students in the Binghamton, Windsor, Susquehanna Valley, Owego Apalachin and Union-Endicott Central School districts.
We envision a Liberty Partnerships Program in every school where all students served have an equal opportunity to graduate fully prepared for college, work and life.
