Academic Initiatives

Mission

The Division of Academic Affairs will lead Binghamton University's efforts to be the premier public university. Academic Affairs will engage faculty, staff, students, and the community to enhance a culture of academic excellence and aspiration. We will:

  • recruit and retain outstanding faculty and graduate students;
  • promote continuous improvements in graduate and undergraduate education;
  • inspire path-breaking research, scholarship, and creative activities;
  • develop transformative learning communities;
  • nurture a diverse and inclusive community that is engaged with the world from the local to the global.

Goals

  1. Goal 1: Faculty Recruitment and Development

    Provide leadership for recruiting outstanding faculty who will enhance Binghamton University's reputation for research and teaching. Offer the support necessary for all faculty to excel as scholars and teachers.

  2. Goal 2: Research and Creative Activities

    In partnership with the Division of Research, enhance Binghamton University's strength and stature as a research university through strategic faculty hiring and invest in transdisciplinary areas of excellence. Develop the intellectual, physical, and fiscal support for world class scholarship.

  3. Goal 3: Graduate Education

    Enhance the quality, number, and reputation of Binghamton University's doctoral and masters programs, notably career directed masters programs, and meet or exceed targets for increased graduate enrollment established in the University's NYSUNY 2020 plan.

  4. Goal 4: Undergraduate Education

    Bring the best, brightest, and most diverse students to Binghamton University and provide them with a rich learning environment that prepares them for post-baccalaureate education, careers, citizenship, life-long learning, and satisfying lives.

  5. Goal 5: Diversity

    Develop and execute strategies to increase the diversity of our faculty, students, and staff and create a welcoming, inclusive community whose members learn from individuals representing the broadest diversity of backgrounds and identities.

  6. Goal 6: Global Engagement

    Build on Binghamton University's successes in internationalizing its campus and curriculum to create a global university that is rich in multicultural diversity, develops strategic research and educational partnerships with other top universities around the world, and prepares students for life in an increasingly interdependent world.

  7. Goal 7: Resource Development and Allocation

    Increase the resources available to support academic excellence through strategic enrollment management, increasing external support for research and private giving, encouraging entrepreneurial activities, continuously assessing program effectiveness and reallocating resources where appropriate, and assuring that resources are used effectively to build academic quality and generate additional resources.
