Welcome to the Public Administration program! Below is information important for all new students.
Letter from the chair
Dear MPA Students:
Welcome to Binghamton University’s Master of Public Administration program. Every academic year begins with promise and as you start on a new path, one filled with challenges, growth and new opportunities, I encourage you to review the material in this handbook carefully because it is rich with the information that you will need to successfully complete the program. Before diving into the details though, I want to take just a minute to share my thoughts about why your journey is vitally important and why our faculty and staff are so excited about the 2024-25 academic year.
Public servants have a fundamental responsibility to rebuild trust in our institutions. Our podcast is called “Doing Good Well”, a phrase promoted by Professor Campbell. You are not just earning another degree; you are preparing to add your ethical, knowledgeable, and caring voice to the political noise that is flooding our communities and drowning out the problem solvers and peace makers. I believe that your calling is vital to the very survival of many people in our most vulnerable communities. Our job is to prepare you well and your job is to apply what you have learned to make our communities better places tomorrow and twenty years from now. Together, as a community of scholars and practitioners, we can and do make the difference. I can’t wait to get started!
Every year we build this community anew, drawing new students in and maintaining and expanding our connections with an impressive network of program alumni. Our talented faculty and staff are committed to your success and you will find that your classmates will be your greatest champions and closest friends. This path is difficult, but it shouldn’t be lonely.
Sincerely,
Komla Dzigbede, Chair
Department of Public Administration

International students
International students typically make up 5% of the MPA student body! Some recent alumni created this page to help incoming international students as they adjust to life in Binghamton.
