The Center for Korean Studies supports Binghamton students who want the opportunity to enhance their language skills in Korean through participation in language programs overseas. Students who wish to pursue semester-long or year-long study overseas should visit Binghamton University's Office of International Programs in Rockefeller G-1 for further details.
Currently, Binghamton University offers two exchange programs to Korea University and Korea University Business School. The Korea University exchange is open to students of all majors and features coursework taught in English as well as the opportunity to complete coursework in Korean if sufficiently fluent. The colleges of Law, Business Administration, Liberal Arts, Political Science and Economics, Engineering, Education, Nursing, Communications, Health Sciences, International Studies, and Art and Design have courses available for exchange students.
The Business School exchange is open only to students in Binghamton University's School of Management. Students are allowed to take courses in accounting, management, finance, management information systems and international business. Binghamton University students are completely integrated into the university, taking courses with Korean students, living in campus residence halls and being included in all university activities. The Korea University Buddy Assistants (KUBA) offers a "buddy" system with native KU students and sponsors cultural and social events that help international students to adjust to life in Korea and immerse themselves in the culture.
Binghamton University is in the process of launching two new exciting opportunities for study abroad and exchange in Korea. First, the KAIST exchange will begin in spring 2013 for students in the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science and Harpur College of Arts and Sciences students in the natural science fields. The program offers students an opportunity to study at one of the elite science and technology research universities not only in Asia, but in the world.
The second new opportunity for study abroad in Korea is through Hanyang University's International Summer School. Students will be able to spend four weeks of their summer break immersing themselves in the culture and history of Korea and earning 6 credits to use toward graduation. Courses in Korean Studies, Humanities/Cultural Studies, Business/Economics, International Relations, Media, Design/Fine Arts, Sciences and Engineering are available. All courses are taught in English and Korean language courses are available at the beginning and intermediate levels. Students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture of Korea by participating in various field trips, excursions and cultural programs.
Binghamton University students are also eligible to study abroad on any study-abroad or exchange program offered by the 64 other SUNY campuses. There are currently 29 programs to Korean universities such as Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Ewha Womans University and many others.
