All first-year engineering students enrolled in Watson College begin their academic experience with a common first-year curriculum of mathematics and the natural sciences.
First-year students are also introduced to the various fields of engineering in EDD 111-112, in which they are exposed to biomedical engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and industrial and systems engineering.
This cornerstone program ensures that all Watson College students have a broad perspective of engineering, core competency in the foundations of engineering and essential skills in problem solving, decision making, teamwork, writing and oral presentation.
Some students entering this first-year program have already determined their desired engineering major; others have yet to discover which discipline best matches their potential. No matter which category you fall into, you will get a solid start in the Engineering Design Division before moving on to the fundamentals of an individual engineering discipline presented through a sequence of core technical courses integrated with technical electives and general education courses.
