Federal Verification Process for FAFSA (2024-25)

If the Department of Education selects you for federal verification, Binghamton University’s Financial Aid Office will notify you. Federal verification confirms details on your FAFSA to ensure eligibility for aid. Please submit all requested documents within 45 days of notification. Aid disbursement is on hold until verification is complete.


Steps to Complete Verification

  1. Check BU Brain: Only submit documents listed under "Unsatisfied Requirements"
  2. Document Submission Options:
    1. Online: Upload securely via my.binghamton.edu under “Financial Aid Documents.”
    2. Fax: Send to 607-777-6897.
    3. Mail: Financial Aid and Student Records PO Box 6000 Binghamton, NY 13902
    4. In-Person: Admissions Center 112 (open Mon-Fri 9am-4pm)

Note: Include the student’s name and B-number on all submissions.


Common Verification Requirements

IRS Tax Data

  • Option 1: Use IRS Financial Aid Direct Data Exchange (FA-DDX)(recommended).
  • Option 2: Submit signed federal tax return.
  • Option 3: Order an IRS Tax Return Transcript.

Verification Worksheet: Complete, sign, and submit. Available for dependent and independent students.  Available on our Forms page.

W-2 Forms (if requested): Submit W-2s from student and/or parent(s).

Non-Filer IRS Verification Letter: For non-filers. Obtain from the IRS or submit IRS Form 4506-T if needed. Available on our Forms page.

Identity/Statement of Educational Purpose Form: Must be signed in person or with a notary, along with a copy of a government-issued ID.  Available on our Forms page.
