Mission, Vision, and Core Values

Mission

Improve the quality of life for individuals diagnosed with Autism, their families, and their communities through compassionate partnerships and high-quality, person-centered, evidence-based practice, education and research.

Vision and Core Values

Reflection of Inclusion

We believe in the necessity of being a warm and welcoming place where everyone (staff, children, families, and students) can learn, participate, and thrive. Individuals can learn new skills and further develop their strengths to participate and positively impact their communities and the world. We value respect of one another's differences and strengths and know that including different perspectives allows for a space of growth, belonging and acceptance.

Science-Based Education and Therapy

We believe that educational and therapeutic practices grounded in science are the most effective. We also acknowledge that these practices do and should change over time based on new scientific findings. We are committed to high levels of engagement in continuing education and professional development.

Team ICD

Our team is comprised of experts, novices, and students from different disciplines, whose passion and commitment to excellence yield innovative, pragmatic, and needed approaches, solutions, and programs. Every person on our team is valued and contributes to meaningful and successful outcomes.

Compassion

We show compassion and empathy for those we serve, for those around us, and for each other. We lift each other up. We celebrate small and big wins. We hope it's contagious!

Founding History

The Institute for Child Development (ICD) was founded in 1974 by Dr. Raymond Romanczyk, Professor of Psychology at Binghamton University, to meet the community need for helping children with developmental disabilities in improving social communication, life, and academic skills to be more successful in educational and community settings.
