Early Intervention Programs

Services for children 9 months to 3 years old

Early Intervention Services

Early Intervention (EI) services at ICD are designed to best fit your child’s developmental needs. Our team works closely with you to help your child make the most progress possible during this important time in life.

We serve children in our EI program who have been identified as eligible for EI services by their county health department EI program. If you have not yet spoken with someone at the health department, please contact your county health department to initiate the eligibility process. Once a child is eligible for services, a representative from your county, called an ongoing service coordinator, will contact us to set up services. For more information about the New York State Early Intervention Program, please refer to the NYS Department of Health webpage here: https://www.health.ny.gov/community/infants_children/early_intervention/families.htm

Our Approach and Service Options

We promote your child’s development by providing a warm, nurturing, and supportive setting that focuses on ways we can partner with you to build skills through play and social engagement. We use evidence-based teaching strategies so that your child receives state of the art instruction by all staff at ICD. Family involvement and support are prioritized at ICD because we know that when a family is thriving so is the child.

EI Services presently available through ICD include:

     - Speech therapy
     - Occupational therapy

Typically, services are provided once per week for 30-45 minutes. Once your child’s service coordinator has referred your family to us, a staff member will reach out to your family to discuss your schedule, answer your questions, and review any preliminary information. At your first appointment, there may be some additional paperwork to complete with us at check-in depending on the speed with which your appointment was scheduled (i.e., sometimes we have time to mail paperwork in
advance). Your child will be assigned to work with a specific therapist from our team who will partner with your family to meet your child’s goals throughout the time we are listed as your child’s therapy provider with EI.

A meeting occurs approximately every six months to review your child’s progress and determine next steps, new needs, or goal changes. Once goals are met, discharge recommendations are discussed with your family and then a summary of progress and recommendation for discharge is forwarded to the county.

If you have questions about our program, please call us at 607-777-2829 for more information. Please remember, we cannot accept direct referrals for EI from family members. If you are interested in working with our team through EI, you must speak with your county health department EI program first.
