Peer Mentors for International Students
Students who have been on campus for at least one year are invited to apply to become
peer mentors for international undergraduate students enrolled in the English Language
Institute (ELI).
Mentors are enrolled in EML 391: English Language Learner Outreach and Persistence, a 2-credit course that provides training in leadership, cross-cultural communication, and mentoring practices. Through weekly class sessions and group meetings with their mentees, mentors support first-year international students as they adjust to academic and social life at Binghamton.
Mentors share their own experiences, introduce campus resources, and help foster a welcoming, supportive environment. This is a meaningful opportunity for students interested in education, global engagement, student leadership—or those who simply want to give back to the Binghamton community.
How to Apply
Students interested in becoming mentors should be in their second year or above and
have a strong interest in working with international students.
To apply, please complete the Mentor Interest Form or email Kellie Tompkins at ktompkin@binghamton.edu for more information.
Applications are reviewed each semester, and selected students will be enrolled in EML 391 for academic credit.
