Weekly Inspection Program
Eyewashes and Irrigation Hoses must be inspected weekly by the lab occupants. A weekly inspection should consist of the following:
- Ensure the path to the unit is unobstructed.
- Run the unit enough to clear stagnant water from the "dead leg" portion of the eyewash (the plumbing between the main and the eyewash), between 15 seconds and 3 minutes.
If any of these items do not pass and you cannot address the issue, place a "Caution" sign on the unit and put a work order in.
Recordkeeping
A paper record can be posted on the wall behind the unit and filled out weekly.
NOTE: You MUST empty the bucket or carboy after every test!
Annual Inspection
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety performs annual inspections of all equipment. These inspections consist of a flow test, temperature, dust covers, and more as outlined in the ANSI Z358.1 Standard. If a unit fails the Annual Inspection, we will place a work order in and post a sign near the unit indicating the results of the inspection. Units that fail annual inspection must still be checked weekly and may still be used in some emergencies. EHS will remove the sign when the unit passes re-inspection.
