Living

Whatever you're looking for – recreational opportunities, nightlife, shopping or just having fun – you'll find plenty of ways to do it in the Greater Binghamton area. Located in the heartland of New York state, Binghamton is surrounded by lively cities and quaint villages. The area is proud of its many beautiful parks and outdoor recreation centers, including the Binghamton University Nature Preserve, a 182-acre forest and wetland area with a six-acre pond that adjoins campus.

Since Binghamton is only a short distance from Syracuse (73 miles), New York City (177 miles) and Philadelphia (184 miles), it attracts a variety of touring musicals, concerts and other events. There is also a lively local cultural arts scene, including theater and opera companies and a philharmonic orchestra. On campus we have the Anderson Center for the Performing Arts, which features international performances, musical recitals and other cultural events.

Whether you prefer watching or participating, sporting events can play a part in your life here. Binghamton is the home of the minor-league Rumble Ponies baseball team and the FPHL Binghamton Black Bears hockey team. The area offers a number of golf courses, parks and hiking trails.

For those for whom shopping is the "sport" of choice, just about anything you might need can be found within a few miles of the University at one of our many plazas or at our local mall.
