Student Organizations

At Binghamton University, student organizations or clubs are chartered through the Student Association (SA). The SA currently oversees more than 250 organizations, with several more in the process of becoming recognized. For a full list of organizations, as well as upcoming campus events, visit B-Engaged.

Student Association chartered organizations

Full information on how to start a new undergraduate student organization is available on the SA website. Below is an overview of the process.

1. Email charter@binghamtonsa.org to set up an appointment.
2. Meet with the executive vice president's (EVP) assistant to discuss the intent-to-charter process and receive the link to the Chartering Process form.
3. The EVP office requires the following documents to be uploaded to your application prior to review:
   • Signature Sheet (upload as pdf)
   • Constitution (see Management Policies 7.6)
     • Email constitutions@binghamtonsa.org
   • 3 executive board meeting minutes (including attendance)
   • 3 general body meeting minutes (including attendance)
   • Signed Event Planning Checklist from the EVP event planning advisor
     • Email eventplanning@binghamtonsa.org
4. Once documents have been received and approved by the office, they will be forwarded to the Internal Affairs (IA) committee of the Student Congress.
5. IA will set up a meeting where you will present to the committee and defend why your organization deserves to be chartered.
6. After being approved by IA, meet with the EVP office for further steps.

Graduate student organizations

Information about chartering a new graduate student organization is available on the Graduate Student Organization website. 

Campus-recognized fraternities and sororities

Information about submitting a proposal for a new chapter of an existing fraternity or sorority is available on the Fraternity and Sorority Life website, in "Section XI. Extension/Expansion/Recognition" of the Binghamton University Fraternity & Sorority Relationship Agreement.

Club Sports

Information about submitting a proposal for a new Club Sport is available on Campus Recreation's website.

Multicultural Resource Center

The Multicultural Resource Center has ties to many of the cultural student organizations and is also a great resource for students looking for opportunities to connect with other students of diverse cultural backgrounds.
