Innovation Lab:

Where creativity and new ideas ignite

dgndhhgm
The Innovation Lab opened this fall in the former Newcomb Reading Room in Glenn G. Bartle Library.

Donors have provided $2.6 million and counting in gifts and commitments to support the new Innovation Lab at Binghamton University.

  • The lab and Innovation Scholars program attract the next generation of dreamers and doers. There, creatives, engineers, scientists and business specialists connect with visionary thought leaders from academia and industry. The result? Meaningful collaboration, valuable risk taking and novel solutions to complex problems — resulting from diverse perspectives and knowledge from different disciplines.
  • Jacob Goodman ’21 was part of the first cohort of sophomore students recruited as Innovation Scholars for the three-year program that was launched in 2018. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, he built a prototype of a working ventilator using parts he bought at Walmart.
  • With a $1 million commitment recently to advance the program, Elizabeth Bloomer Nesvold ’90 and H. Peter Nesvold are ensuring Binghamton continues to awaken student interests, inspire bright ideas and bridge the gap between imagination and real-world implementation. The Nesvold Nexus, named in recognition of their generosity, is the common space at the core of the lab.
