MULTI-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION

Introduction

Binghamton University employs two different multi-factor authentication (MFA) technologies to best ensure the security of University-managed accounts. Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an extra layer of security that requires individuals to use two or more pieces of evidence (factors) while logging in to a system. These factors typically include:

    1. Something you know: Your Binghamton University username and password.
    2. Something you have: A device like a phone, computer, keyfob, etc.

BMail:

Your official Binghamton e-mail address is where all university communications are sent.

Binghamton University Computer Account:

Your computer account is used to access all online resources on campus, including housing request forms, Brightspace, MyBinghamton, public computers on campus, Internet connection, BU BRAIN Self-Service, and more. You can access your computer account by logging in with your user ID and password.

To activate your account, you will need to set an account password:

Setting Up Your Account Password and 2FA:

  1. Go to Password Portal.
  2. Enter your Binghamton University username.
  3. Select a contact to receive a One-Time-Password (OTP).
  4. Check your email for a message with a code and enter it in the box on the Password Portal.
  5. Set your new password. You will see a confirmation that your password for all accounts was set.
