FTIR Spectroscopy

FTIR SpectrometerThe Thermo Scientific Nicolet 8700 FTIR Spectrometer with Continuµm Imaging System is a research-quality tool providing superior performance and advanced scanning capabilities over other FTIR insruments. Our system is equipped with some additional accessories, including the Smart iTR module, an ultra-high-performance, versatile Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR) sampling accessory.

FTIR is the standard for chemical identification work in academic, analytical, QC/QA, and forensics laboratories.  FTIR can determine the various organic and inorganic compounds within a sample (food, soil, metals and their alloys, polymers, etc.) based on thier unique IR absorbance spectra.

Benefits of FTIR:

  • Rapid and non-destructive
  • Little sample preparation
  • Complementary to Raman
  • Easy access to low vibrational frequencies, making it easy to analyze inorganic molecules

System Capabilities:

  • Spectral range – 11,000 cm-1 to 350 cm-1
  • Resolution – 0.1 cm-1
  • Wavelength reproducibility, cm-1 – 0.01
  • Scanning speed at a resolution of 16 cm-1 – 90 scan/s
  • Type of spectrometer – a Michelson interferometer, 90 degrees
  • Number of mirrors in interferometer – 2 pc
