Faculty/Staff Hardware Support

Computer & Device Purchasing

ITS collaborates with various stakeholders to streamline the process of purchasing computers for the University. Annually we review the needs of the University and make recommendations for models that meet our recommended requirements. We have streamlined the ordering process by locking in pricing for standard models. Additionally, these standard models come with an extended warranty.

Please visit our Purchasing Computers page to get more information on how to purchase a new computer.

Before ordering, departments interested in buying new equipment should submit a request for a New Computer Quote or contact the ITS Help Desk at 607-777-6420. ITS works with multiple vendors, including vendors on state contract, to find the best pricing for the University, and recommends following these procedures for purchasing new computers. This step ensures that you receive accurate pricing information and personalized assistance based on your specific requirements.

Computer Lifecycle Replacement

ITS sponsors an annual bulk computer purchasing program for the campus (normally occurring during the Spring Semester), which helps reduce the cost per machine via volume discounts. This also helps departments to be more aware of their equipment replacement cycle and their technology budgets. The current recommendation is that faculty/staff machines should be replaced every four years and that departments move towards compliance with our Computer Endpoint Security Standards

Computer & Device Repair

Our team includes Dell and Apple Certified repair technicians who are proficient in repairing University-owned devices, regardless of warranty status. If your Dell or Apple device requires repair, please submit a request through IT Self Service or contact the ITS Help Desk. For devices that are no longer under warranty, we can provide an estimate for the parts required and complete the repair if desired.

Departmental Printers

ITS manages departmental network printers on the Taboo server. For a department to request a new printer to be added, please submit a Service Request TIcket . Instructions for connecting to a network printer can be found in our Knowledge Base.
