National Day of Silence

Day of Silence is a national event where people take a vow of silence to highlight the historic and ongoing silencing and marginalization of LGBTQ people. In the U.S. and worldwide, LGBTQ people face abuse, harassment, discrimination, violence, homelessness, poverty, and suicide. Our Day of Silence protest takes on many forms, but we always invite the entire campus community to participate with us. Be sure to look for calls to action in the spring!

Lavender Celebration

The first Lavender Graduation ceremony was held at the University of Michigan in 1995. Dr. Ronnie Sanlo saw an opportunity to include many students who felt invisible during their college years and who were skipping the official graduation ceremony altogether. Today, Lavender Graduation is a key component of commencement season at many campuses throughout the country. Following this tradition, Lavender Celebration incorporates keynote speakers, entertainment and the annual Pride Awards. Each graduate is presented a lavender tassel as we celebrate student success! The 7th Annual Lavender Celebration will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023, in C4-Multipurpose Room!
