The Bridge of Boats was the site of a floating bridge used by General Burgoyne in his advance towards Albany. The British had encamped on the east side of the Hudson River to accumulate supplies and crossed over to continue the advance. Before leaving Saratoga to continue their southerly advance, the British dismantled the Bridge of Boats. The location of the bridge was north of the mouth of the Battenkill and it is believed to be approximately 100 yards north of the current Dix Bridge.
