The Assembly Area and Surrender Site, also known as the location of “Grounded Arms,” is where the surrendering British Army rallied to turn in their arms after the official surrender by Lt. General Burgoyne. This occurred on October 17 at the parade ground of the French and Indian War fortification of Fort Hardy. The British then formed a column to march as Prisoners of War to Boston. Fort Hardy was no longer standing at the time of the surrender.
