BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger recognized 29 faculty members, students and community members for their exceptional community engagement efforts at the Institute on Community-Engaged Teaching, Research & Scholarship Recognition Ceremony, held on Thursday, March 19.
Awards were presented to Binghamton University faculty and students who have exhibited exemplary dedication to creating lasting and meaningful change within communities, either locally or abroad; and to several community members for their demonstrated commitment of engaging Binghamton University students in the community.
"Binghamton University faculty and students engage in truly innovative projects and initiatives which positively impact the local community every year," said Allison Alden, director of the Center for Civic Engagement at Binghamton University. "The Recognition Ceremony gave us the opportunity to honor some of these individuals, as well as community members who have gone out of their way to engage our students off campus."

As a whole, the two-day Institute on Community-Engaged Teaching, Research & Scholarship, held March 18-19, attracted more than 230 attendees, including Binghamton University faculty, staff, administration and students; community members; and faculty at universities, from across the state. The Institute was held to celebrate the partnerships already forged between the University and community, and to support faculty as they strive to integrate community engagement into their academic courses and scholastic endeavors.
